Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: IPL 2023 Match 7 Results and Highlights
On April 22, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced each other in their seventh match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 16 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Both teams were in a do-or-die situation as they stood at the bottom of the TATA IPL 2023 points tally.
After winning the toss, DC skipper David Warner opted to bat first, becoming the first captain to make this decision in Hyderabad in IPL 2023. The pitch report suggested a high-scoring track, which could have influenced Warner's decision. However, SRH skipper Aiden Markram later revealed that his team wanted to bowl first anyway.
DC's batting order got off to a disappointing start, with opener Philip Salt getting dismissed for a golden duck by SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the very first over. Warner and Mitchell Marsh tried to build a partnership, but T Natarajan dismissed Marsh in the fifth over after he scored 25 runs in 15 balls.
After the powerplay, Warner tried to accelerate the innings, but was removed by Washington Sundar for 21 in the eighth over. Sarfaraz Khan (10) and Aman Khan (4) were also dismissed by Sundar in the same over. By the end of the eighth over, DC's score was 62/5.
Manish Pandey and Axar Patel then took charge of the game and built a partnership. When it seemed that DC would set a respectable score, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Patel (34) in the 18th over. Soon after, the batting order collapsed again as Pandey was run out by Sundar. DC managed to score 144 runs after losing nine wickets at the end of the 20 overs.
During the chase, SRH also had a disastrous start, losing five wickets for 72 runs in the first ten overs. Sundar claimed three wickets, while Kumar and Natarajan picked two and one wicket respectively.
